Install Eclipse

  1. Download the latest Eclipse Classic install
    1. Visit the Eclipse downloads page
    2. Click the Eclipse Classic link
    3. Find a miror and click to download eclipse
  2. Extract the Eclipse download to /usr/lib
  3. Delete downloaded file
  4. Create launcher for quick-launch panel
    1. Right click the Quick-Launch panel
    2. Select the Add to Panel option
    3. Select the Custom Application Launcher option
    4. Set the following fields
      1. Type: Application
      2. Name: Eclipse
      3. Command: /usr/lib/eclipse/eclipse
      4. Comment: Eclipse IDE
      5. Click the OK button
    5. Click the Close button

Configure Eclipse

  1. Open Eclipse
  2. Set the Workspace
  3. Check the Use this as the default and do not ask again checkbox
  4. Click the OK button
  5. Edit Eclipse Preferences
    1. Select the Window > Preferences menu option
    2. Edit Text Editor Settings
      1. Select the General > Editors > Text Editors left column option
      2. Check the Insert spaces for tabs checkbox
      3. Check the Show line numbers checkbox
    3. Use external browser
      1. Select the General > Web Browser left column option
      2. Select the Use external Web browser radio option
    4. Click the OK button
  6. Close Eclipse
    1. Check the Always exit without prompt checkbox
    2. Click the OK button
